I don’t know about you, but I just love music videos. I’m not sure where the initial idea for them came from but, they are such a wonderful opportunity to create something beautiful in a whole new way. It allows you to take your song, and make it visual.

A lot of bands take the easy way out and do a “performance” music video, where it’s basically just them performing the song and filming it. That can be cool, but you have to get really creative with it. More often than not, it’s boring and unoriginal. So, I really love it when a band creates a really interesting visual or even tells a story with their video.

Black Veil Brides has always, always come through for me when it comes to their videos. Even their “performance only” ones are super cool – because they’ve done them in a very creative and interesting setting, usually with fire… and who doesn’t love fire?

Some of their videos tell a stand-alone story… but most of them are actually connected to each other. It’s really quite amazing, especially considering the first one was released in 2009. Five years later, in 2014 they had a character from the first video return and make an appearance in their most recent video. I don’t believe the story is over yet either – they always come up with something else.

I’ve laid all their videos out here, in chronological order, which is really the best way in which to watch them. It truly is an experience.

Knives and Pens – June 17, 2009

My favourite thing about this video, besides the message it sends, is the story behind it. Short version – Andy (the lead singer/founder of the band) didn’t even really have a band at the time, but he somehow got himself into a situation where someone was offering to make a music video with him. Not wanting to pass up the oppourtunity, he whipped together a band real fast. The drummer in the video, Sandra Alva, stayed with the band for quite a while actually.

Perfect Weapon, June 14, 2010

This is one that you would probably consider a “performance” music video, but it’s so dark and mysterious you can’t help but love it, and they added a nice touch by including fans.

Fallen Angels, May 24, 2011

To date, this is the only music video they have done that was not directed by Patrick Fogarty. I’m not really sure why, maybe he was just too busy or something, but whatever the case may be, it was not the best decision.  I mean, it’s not a bad video, but it’s not their best either. It’s still super fun and has a lot of energy, it’s just not up to par with their other videos if you ask me.

The Legacy, June 6, 2011

This one is just beyond badass. That is all.

Rebel Love Song, October 31, 2011

This one really lives up to it’s title. It’s rebellious, it’s liberating, it’s exciting. It tells the awesome love story of two people who are the definition of rebel. There is also an extended version that was released a couple months after the first. It gives just a little more insight into the characters and the story line. You can find this version here –>>> Rebel Love Song (Extended Version)

Coffin, June 20, 2012

This one is really cool. It’s very visual and it tells a pretty neat story. It’s kind of dark and mysterious, and really intense. If you’re a long time fan of Black Veil Brides, there is a deeper meaning to this video, but even to an outsider or new fan, it’s a really fun video.

In The End, Dec 12, 2012

This video was released as a part of a full length film” which is basically a 45 minute long music video for the entire album, Wretched and Divine. It’s a stand alone story which is pretty badass in itself, but I do encourage you to check out the entire film, entitled Legion of the Black

Heart of Fire, Oct 16, 2014

This one is a bit of a follow up to Legion of the Black I think. It’s really well done, and honestly speaks for itself.

Goodbye Agony, October 31, 2014

Their most recent music video to date, I feel like it’s still continuing the story from the past couple videos a little bit. As with Coffin, This one really does have a bit of a deeper meaning to more long term/dedicated BVB fans. The boy in the video, the character is named David and he’s the same character (and same actor) as the boy in the Knives and Pens video. As a long time, and hardcore Black Veil Brides fan, I actually kind of teared up watching this one for the first time. It’s probably one of my favourites.

Black Veil Brides get a lot of negative, and often times hateful attention from the rock and metal community, and it makes me a little angry, but mostly sad. I get that they’re not really metal, but that doesn’t mean they deserve all the hate that they get, especially from metal heads. It’s too bad too, because they really are amazing people who care so , so much about their fans and about their music. But alas, they have a bad reputation with a lot of communities surrounding heavier music, but it’s never phased me. I’ve always loved them and I always will – I’m way past caring what anyone else thinks of them.

I hope you enjoyed the videos – this post really took me down memory lane!
