I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again – I just love finding a good new female-fronted band to listen to. They’re popping up more and more recently and it makes me really happy. This one I just found the other day, and I’m already really impressed. They are called Beautiful Bodies.

Some History

This band actually has a pretty cool story – certainly not your typical forming of a band.

beautiful bodies band The group actually developed while the three members were living in different countries. Drummer and Guitarist Thomas Becker is Harvard educated human rights lawyer. He was living in Bolivia suing their former president for a massacre of protesters.

Vocalist Alicia Solombrino and Bassist Luis Arana were both living in the United States. They demo’d music and sent it back and forth to each other through email. Eventually, a song they had put together entitled “You’re a Risk” was picked up by an alternative radio station, which garnered some label attention and also got the song picked up by other radio stations.

The band then toured with bands like The Smashing Pumpkins, My Chemical Romance and Paramore.

In 2013 they won Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands, which got them onto Warped Tour. They then signed with Epitaph in 2014. Their debut album “Battles” was released on June 16, 2015. They are currently out of Kansas City, Missouri.

Very Different Sound

I think a good word for their sound is interesting. It’s interesting to listen to not only the music itself, but the vocals as well. The lyrics are captivating and Alicia’s voice is just so cool. A lot of people like music as a background to reading or studying, browsing the internet, whatever it may be. I do it myself very frequently. However, I find with this music it’s not great to play in the “background” simply because it’s hard not to pay attention to it.

Another word that comes to mind when I listen to them, is staccato. And I don’t say this because everything is short and repetitive, I just mean that every line packs a real punch and everything is so very dynamic, and yet direct. It almost feels a little jumpy in places, yet not choppy.

The singers’ voice is very beautiful of course – absolutely wonderful to listen to. But something else I like about her, is her immaculate enunciation. It’s as if every word she speaks is an important part of the song, and she wants it emphasized. It really makes for a very interesting and almost… exciting listening experience.

Conclusion

Basically, you just need to check these guys out. There’s something very special and different about them for sure, and in a world where female fronted bands are on the rise, Beautiful Bodies certainly stands out. The amount of energy they throw into every single second of their music is wonderful, and so very unique.

I do hope I can see this band live someday… I can only imagine what that would be like!
